Car Accident with no Seat Belt

Nampa, Idaho – No Seatbelt, Passenger Ejected and Killed in I-84 Rollover Crash

On Monday, April 9, 2012, at approximately 8:09 PM, Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle rollover, fatality crash on westbound Interstate 84 near milepost 34 in Nampa, ID.

Shawn Sant, 47, of Ogden, Utah, was traveling west on Interstate 84 near milepost 34 in a 1998 Dodge Neon when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and rolled.

Neither Sant nor his passenger, Wendy Hoff, age 49, also of Ogden, Utah, were wearing seatbelts.

Hoff was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Sant was transported to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with minor injuries.

Officers believe alcohol, speed, and driver inattention are all contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is continuing.

Amarillo, TX – No Car Seat Cited in Serious Injury Crash

APD investigating 3-18-12 accident at Bushland and Western.

On 3/18/12, at 2:00 PM, officers were dispatched on a major accident at the intersection of Bushland/Western.

A red Ford Focus was traveling south in the left lane of S. Western approaching Bushland.

A silver Ford Contour was traveling south in the right lane and was passing the Focus.

Contact occurred between these two cars.

The silver Contour ended up crossing into the northbound lanes of Western.

A white Chevrolet truck was traveling north on Western and struck the silver Contour almost head on.

The driver of the silver Contour was Alyce Mystia Solis.

There were 3 children in the Contour with Solis, a 2 year-old boy, a 3 year-old girl, and a 6 year-old girl.

All four occupants were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

The 6 year-old girl had head injuries that are life-threatening.

She was not in a child seat.

The driver of the white pickup, Lester Peterson, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The driver of the red Focus, Deavon Sandoval, and her passenger were uninjured in the accident.

This accident is under investigation by the Traffic Investigation Unit of the Police Department.

Vermilion Parish, LA – Ejected Driver Dies, No Seatbelt Used

Unrestrained Driver Dies in Crash

Vermilion Parish- This morning, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle crash on LA Highway 338 near Ranch Road which claimed the life of a Delcambre man.

According to investigating troopers, on March 18, 2012, at 3:09 a.m., 25-year-old Kevin Reynolds of Delcambre, was driving a 1997 Lexus passenger car west on LA Highway 338 approaching a left curve.

For unknown reasons, Reynolds failed to negotiate the turn and drove off the right side of the roadway. Reynolds’ vehicle struck a culvert and subsequently overturned.

Reynolds, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead by the Vermilion Parish Coroner.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to wear their seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash it will greatly reduce your risk of injury in most crashes.

Rigby, Idaho – No Seat Belts, Driver Killed, Passenger Ejected

On March 18, 2012 at approximately 1:07 am, Brian Rumsey, 23, from Rigby, was driving a black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on 4100 East near 132 North in Rigby, when for unknown reasons the vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane.

Rumsey overcorrected to the right causing the vehicle to spin clockwise.

The vehicle then struck a power pole and overturned.

Brian Rumsey was partially ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

His passenger, Jamie Rumsey, 21, also of Rigby, was ejected from the vehicle and then transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance with minor injuries.

Both occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts.

Weather is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Trooper Oswald was assisted at the scene by several other Idaho State Police troopers as well as Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation is ongoing and next of kin have been notified.

Lincoln Parish, LA – Driver With No Seat Belt Ejected and Killed in Crash

Unrestrained Driver Killed in Lincoln Parish Crash

Louisiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash in Lincoln Parish that left one woman dead and another seriously injured.

At approximately 6:20 pm yesterday, troopers investigated a single vehicle crash involving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am that was traveling east on I-20 at milepost 75.9 when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The car ran off the left side of the road, rotated counter-clockwise as it entered the median and overturned several times before it came to rest.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Kayesha Walker from Arcadia, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office.

Her passenger, 20-year-old Sherrita Jones from Arcadia, was also ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was air-lifted to LSU-Shreveport with serious injuries.

Neither occupant was restrained.

While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology tests are pending.

Troop F has investigated two fatal crashes which have resulted in two deaths so far this year.

Both fatal crash victims were ejected from their vehicles.

While not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint.

Vernon, LA – No Seat Belt Cited / Driver Ejected in Fatal Crash

Oakdale Man Killed In Vernon Parish Crash

Early this morning, a crash involving two vehicles killed a young man from Oakdale, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6:20 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 10 west of Pitkin, LA.

The crash involved a 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by Kord Lee Harrelson (W/M 21 yrs) and a 2006 Kenworth (18 wheeler), driven by Talmadge K. Sigler (W/M 48 yrs) of Hornbeck, LA.

The Ford was west bound on LA Hwy 10 when Harrelson crossed the centerline and collided with the east bound Kenworth.

Harrelson was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sigler received minor injuries and was transported to Oakdale Medical Center.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Leesville, LA – No Seat Belt – Driver Ejected, Killed After Crash into Tree

Leesville Woman Killed In Vernon Parish Crash

Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young woman from Leesville, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 4:00 am, which occurred on Belview Road near LA Hwy 117. The crash involved a 2007 Mazda MZ6, driven by Marci A. Sterling (W/F 22 yrs).

The Mazda was south bound on Belview Road when Sterling lost control and exited the left side of the roadway before overcorrecting and exiting the right side of the roadway.

After exiting the right side, the vehicle collided with a tree.

Sterling was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected.

She was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

The crash remains under investigation.

Prospect, LA – No Seat Belt Cited in Fatal Rollover Crash

Grant Parish Fatal Crash

Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Dry Prong, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:45 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 1241 near Prospect, LA.

The crash involved a 2007 Dodge Charger, driven by a juvenile (W/F 17 yrs) of Pineville, LA.

The Dodge was south bound on LA Hwy 1241 at a high rate of speed.

The juvenile driver lost control and exited the left side of the roadway before the vehicle overturned several times.

The juvenile driver was wearing her seatbelt, but received serious injuries.

She was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Ethan Michael Catteruccia (W/M 21 yrs) was a passenger in the vehicle.

He was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected.

He was pronounced dead.

There were two additional passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The first was a juvenile (W/F 17 yrs) of Colfax, LA and the second was a juvenile (W/F 16 yrs) of Pineville, LA.

Both received moderate injuries and were transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Alcohol use is suspected. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body.

Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times.

Just one drink may cause these effects.

Lafourche, LA – 3 Year-Old Dies in Crash – No Car Seat or Seat Belt Used

Unrestrained Child Dies In Crash

Around 9:30 PM yesterday, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a single vehicle crash on LA 308 near LA 304 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford F-250 Dually, driven by Kevin Vicknair (W/M age 25) of Napoleonville, LA, was traveling north on LA 308 approaching LA 304, when it traveled off the road on the right hand side.

Vicknair’s vehicle struck a culvert and re-entered the road. As the vehicle re-entered the road it began to rotate and came to rest on its side.

Vicknair, who was not properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital.

Vicknair had two children in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A four year old boy, who was not properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital for treatment.

Natalie Vicknair (W/F age 3), who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol may be a factor in the crash.

Blood was taken from Vicknair and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.

Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.

Jerome, Idaho – No Seat Belt – Passenger Ejected in I-84 Rollover Crash

On Sunday, March 4, 2012, at 2:20 a.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 84 at the 164 mile marker, near Jerome.

Shannon Mitchell, 36, from Idaho Falls, was travelling east in a Ford F150 pickup.

He drifted off the left side of the road into the median, tried to get back on the road, and overcorrected.

The truck rolled once, landing upright in the median.

His passenger, Dawn Mitchell, 36, of Salt Lake City, UT, was ejected from the vehicle, landing in the roadway.

Neither subjects were wearing a seat belt.

Both subjects were transported by ground ambulance to St Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls with unknown injuries.

Roads were dry and clear and alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

The crash is being investigated by Trooper M.
